NEWPORT, R.I. – Grant Urken claimed the top men's singles bracket as the Bowdoin men's tennis team opened their fall campaign at the Hall of Fame ITA Grass Court Invitational last weekend.
Held at the International Tennis Hall of Fame, the tournament included some of the top teams in the nation, including Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, Washington University and Trinity (Texas).
- Urken won the Michael Stitch Flight of the tournament with a perfect 3-0 record, defeating Jack Katzman of CMS 3-6, 6-1, 10-5 in the finals. The contest was a rematch of last year's NCAA Division III final, also won by Urken.
- Jerry Jiang also saw action in the Michael Stitch Flight, going 2-1 with his only loss coming on Saturday to Katzman. He rebounded to defeat Julian Gordy for third place on Sunday 6-1, 6-2.
- Alan Delman had a solid showing in the Arthur Ashe Flight, going 2-1 and defeating teammate Evan Fortier on Sunday 2-6, 6-3, 10-5.
- The Polar Bears will return to action on September 28 when they open play at the ITA Fall Regional Championship hosted by Middlebury College.
