BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College men's tennis team is seeded fourth and will face Bates in the opening round of the NESCAC Championship on Friday at Williams College. Match time is set for 9 a.m.

The tournament, hosted by Williams, starts on Friday, May 5 with first-round action between Amherst  and Williams along with Bowdoin and Bates. Winners from Friday will advance to Saturday's second  round and face either top-seeded Wesleyan or second-seeded Middlebury. The NESCAC Men's Tennis Championship wraps up on Sunday, May 7 with the final starting at 1 p.m.

The top-seeded Cardinals (13-2, 8-1 NESCAC) will face the winner of Friday's first-round match between fourth-seeded Bowdoin (15-4, 6-3 NESCAC) and fifth-seeded Bates (6-10, 5-4 NESCAC). Wesleyan has not faced Bowdoin in the NESCAC Championship and in the lone meeting with Bates during the 2013 quarterfinals, the Cardinals prevailed, 5-3.

The Polar Bears are making their fourth straight NESCAC Championship appearance, and advanced to the final last season. Bowdoin has one NESCAC title to its credit, winning the championship in 2008. The Polar Bears posted a record of 11-1 to start the season but have gone 4-3 in their last seven matches.

Bates returns to the NESCAC Championship for the first time since 2013 and is seeking its first conference title. The Bobcats earned five wins in April and finished the regular season with a win over Connecticut College and defeated Bowdoin (7-2) on April 26 before falling to Wesleyan (8-1) in the regular-season finale. Friday marks the first meeting between the two teams in the tournament.
