SURPRISE, Ariz. - The Bowdoin College men's tennis doubles pairing of Kyle Wolfe and Jerry Jiang finished fourth at the 2016 Oracle Cup Division III doubles tournament in Arizona on Thursday and Friday.
The fourth-place finish is the best-ever for a Bowdoin team at the ITA Small College National Championships.
- In the opening round on Thursday against the pairing of Elifson/Beck from Saint Thomas, the Polar Bears took a 6-3, 6-4 win, winning the final three games of the opening set and then taking the last two of the second to clinch the victory
- In the semifinals on Friday, the duo dropped a three-setter to Tyer/Lambeth of Trinity (Texas), 6-3, 5-7, 10-7 in the third-set tiebreaker
- In the consolation match on Friday evening, Wolfe and Jiang faced Hull/Parodi of Claremont Mudd Scripps, winning the first set but falling in an eventual 3-6, 6-3, 11-9 decision, their second third-set tiebreak loss of the day
- The rest of the Polar Bear men's tennis squad will compete at the MIT Invitational this weekend. Results will be posted following the completion of play
