PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Bowdoin College men's tennis team opened their 2013-14 season at the Brown Invitational last weekend.

The Polar Bears went a combined 14-8 overall in singles competition at the tournament and went an impressive 6-1 in three set or 10-point tiebreakers. 

In singles play, Samuel King rebounded from an opening match loss to DaSilveira of Brown (6-2, 6-4) with a win over Bryant's Vogt (6-2,6-4) and Gensburg from Colgate (6-4, 1-6, 9-4 ret.) Chase Savage had a pair of wins for Bowdoin as he downed Lemire (6-4, 3-6, 10-7) from BU and Welsh (6-0, 6-0) of Bryant.  Doug Caplan also collected a pair of wins, going 2-1 in the tournament, as he defeated a Bryant player (6-1, 6-4) and earned a 6-3, 6-0 decision over Merrimack's Pronesti.

Two Bowdoin players went undefeated in the season opening tournament, including Hugh Mo who won his singles flight in his first outing as a Polar Bear. Mo defeated players from BU (1-6, 7-6, 13-11), Colgate (6-3, 6-4), and Bryant (6-3, 6-3). Luke Trinka also went 3 for 3 last weekend, winning his flight and only dropping one set within the flight, as he won his first match 6-2, 6-4 over Duarte from Bryant, coupled with a pair of victories against Marist (3-6, 6-1, ret.) and Bryant (6-1, 6-4).

The Polar Bears head to the ITA Regional Championships for a three-day tournament beginning September 27.
