Bowdoin Cruises Into Semifinals With Victory Over Tufts

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. - The Bowdoin College men's tennis team advanced to the NESCAC Semifinals with a 5-1 win over Tufts in a first-round match played Friday morning at Middlebury College. The Polar Bears (12-5) advance to take on top-seeded Amherst (29-1) on Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m.

Bowdoin carried a 2-1 win into singles play, with wins at #1 by Stephen Sullivan and Oscar Pena and at #2 by Samuel King and Chris Lord. Pena picked up another win in singles play, earning a 6-1, 6-1 victory at #4 over Pat Monaghan to make it a 3-1 match. Sullivan had little trouble at #1, giving the Polar Bears a 4-1 advantage with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Kai Victoria. The match ended soon thereafter, as Lord was a 6-1, 6-2 victor over Ben Barad in the #3 slot.

The Polar Bears have won five consecutive decisions heading into Saturday's rematch against the Jeffs. Amherst took a 7-2 win over the Polar Bears on April 9.
