Bowdoin Comes Within A Point of Tipping Top-Ranked Middlebury

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College men's tennis team gave top-ranked Middlebury all it could handle in a 5-4 loss on Saturday at the Pickard Field Tennis Courts. The 14th-ranked Polar Bears came within a single point of dealing Middlebury its first Division III loss of the season but dropped to 7-4 overall (2-2 NESCAC). The Panthers move to 14-1 (5-0 NESCAC) with the victory.

The Polar Bears trailed 2-1 after doubles play with Oscar Pena and Kent Winingham earning a 9-7 win at #3 doubles play. Bowdoin rallied in singles play, taking three comeback victories courtesy of Sam King, who rallied at 0-6, 6-2, 7-6 at #2, Casey Grindon, 3-6, 6-4, 10-8 at #3 and Pena, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 at #4.

Bowdoin will return to action for their longest road trip of the season next weekend as they play at Williams on Saturday and at Hamilton on Sunday.
