Sullivan Falls in Quarterfinals of NCAA Championship

BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bowdoin College junior men's tennis player Stephen Sullivan reached the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III singles championship held at Oberlin College. Sullivan's run came to an end on Saturday morning when he lost a three-set battle to Austin Chafetz of Amherst.

Sullivan cruised through the opening day of competition, wasting little time on Friday morning, bouncing Sam Wichlin of Mary Washington, 6-3, 6-4. In his afternoon match, he survived a difficult first set and held serve in the second en route to a 7-6, 6-4 win over Isaac Stein of Washington University.

On Saturday morning, Sullivan and Chafetz played their second three-set epic of the season, with Chafetz rallying for a 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 win. The win was a measure of revenge for Chafetz, who dropped an April 10 match in Brunswick to Sullivan, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4.

A First Team All-NESCAC selection, Sullivan finishes his season with a record of 11-5.
