STONY BROOK, N.Y. - Bowdoin's top doubles duo of Oscar Pena and Jamie Neely claimed the "A" Flight Doubles crown, highlighting the weekend performances by the men's tennis team at the Stony Brook Invitational last weekend.
In a field that included several Division I players, Pena and Neely won four matches in all, including a thrilling 9-8 (7-5) victory over the top-seeded duo of Grubin / Boldarev from Concordia in the semifinals. The Polar Bear pair then dumped the host pairing of Dil and Wong from Stony Brook to claim the title. In the "B" doubles bracket, the Bowdoin duo of Casey Grindon and Josh Cranin advanced to the semifinal round with a pair of wins before falling.
Individually, Bowdoin had six players win opening round matches but none advance to the semifinal round of the singles brackets.
