MIDDLEBURY, Vt. - The Bowdoin College men's tennis team opened
their fall campaign at the Middlebury Invitational this weekend in
Oscar Pena was the top performer for the Polar Bears, reaching the finals of the "A" Singles Flight with three wins, including an impressive 6-4, 6-3 win over Spencer Feldman on Trinity in the semifinals. In the championship match, Andrew Thompson of Middlebury edged Pena with in a thrilling 6-4, 5-7, 10-3 decision.
First-year Casey Grindon had an outstanding opening weekend of his collegiate career, winning the "D" Singles Flight with a perfect 4-0 performance. He capped his run with a victory over Will Oberrender of MIddlebury, 6-2, 5-7, 10-3. In other action, Josh Cranin and Jamie Neely collected first-round wins in the "B" Singles Flight while Adam Davis earned an opening-round victory in the "C" Singles bracket. In doubles play, Grindon teamed with Kent Winningham to reach the semifinals of the "B" Doubles bracket.
