Williams Edges Bowdoin in Nationally-Ranked Battle

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - The Bowdoin College men's tennis team led 2-1 after doubles play, but could only manage one point in singles play in a 6-3 loss to seventh-ranked Williams on Saturday. The eleventh-ranked Polar Bears fall to 10-4 this season with the setback.

Bowdoin claimed doubles wins at one and two. Oscar Pena and Jamie Neely downed the Ephs' top doubles team of Bret Thacher and Dicken Chaplin 8-4. The Polar Bears' Alex Caughron and Stephen Sullivan teamed up to dispose of the Ephs #2 duo of Nick Lebedoff and Will Petrie, 8-3. The lone Eph doubles point came from Jeremy Weinberger and Kevin Shallcross as they defeated Alex White and Tyler Anderson, 8-3.

But Williams rebounded with victories at the top five singles positions, with Bowdoin's lone point coming courtesy of Josh Cranin at number six.

The Polar Bears will look to rebound with a match at Amherst on Sunday at noon.
