LEWISTON, Maine - Bowdoin's Alex Caughron won the "B" Singles title while first-years Alex Jacobs and Andrew Won claimed the "B" doubles flight at the Wallach Invitational hosted by Bates College this weekend.
Unofficially the 'comeback kid' of the tourney, Caughron was seeded second in the bracket and went the distance in all four matches, rallying from a one-set deficit in each contest to win. In the final against Amherst's Surainder Asokaraj, Caughron fell in the opening set and rebounded quickly to take a 4-6, 6-2, 10-2 victory.
In the "B" bracket of the doubles tournament, Won and Jacobs upset top-seeded Vehovec and Riefkohl of Middlebury, 8-6, in the second round. The duo sealed the deal with a trio of impressive 8-4 victories to cruise to the crown, including a decision over Imam and Bond of Skidmore in the final.
Other strong performances by Bowdoin players included Stephen Sullivan reaching the semifinals of the "A" singles bracket and Nicholas Fenichell advancing to the "C" singles semifinals.
