BRUNSWICK, Maine – Nine members of the Bowdoin swimming & diving team will compete this week at the NCAA Division III Championship in Greensboro, N.C.
Seniors Sterling Dixon, Mitch Ryan, and Karl Sarier will all make their fourth consecutive NCAA appearances. Junior Marshall Lowery continues her perfect streak with her third NCAA invitation and sophomore Mary Laurita and Amanda Banasiak will both head to the meet for the second time. Juniors Julian Abaldo and Drew MacDonald along with first-year Ted Mebust will be making their first trips to nationals.
On the women's side, Sterling Dixon has qualified in the 200 IM (6th seed), 200 free (7th seed), and 200 fly (3rd seed). Marshall Lowery qualified in the 200 backstroke (12th). She will also race the 200 IM (46th seed) and the 100 backstroke (21st). Mary Laurita qualified with a sixth seeded 100 fly. She will also race the 50 free (47th) and 100 free (51st). Dixon, Lowery, Laurita, and junior Amanda Banasiak qualified a 400 freestyle relay (18th). The women will also race in the 200 free, the 400 free and 200 medley relays.
For the Polar Bear men, Karl Sarier qualified for the meet with a 12th seeded 100 freestyle. He'll also race the 200 IM (30th) and 200 free (24th). Mitch Ryan returns to Nationals after finishing second on one-meter at this weekend's NCAA Regional diving competition. He'll compete on both the one and three meter boards. Sarier, first year Ted Mebust and juniors Julian Abaldo and Drew Macdonald qualified the 400 freestyle relay in 14th. Mebust will also race the 50 free (24th) and 100 backstroke (27th). The quartet will also race in three relays: 200 free, 400 free and 200 medley.
Prelims begin at 10:00 a.m. each day with finals scheduled for 6:00 p.m. Women precede men in all events. A complete schedule is listed above.
