Bowdoin Splits With Rivals Colby, Bates in Advance of "Maine Event" This Weekend

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College men's squash team split a series with rivals Bates and Colby in consecutive nights this week.

The Polar Bears fell at Bates on Wednesday, 7-2, before bouncing back to edge the Mules, 5-4, in a thrilling match Thursday at the Lubin Family Squash Center. Bowdoin stands at 6-9 this season and ranks 19th in the latest College Squash Association poll, just behind Bates (#18) and ahead of Colby (#21).

Against the Bobcats, juniors Barrett Takesian and William Fantini collected the points for Bowdoin by both earning come-from-behind five-set wins at the number three and four positions. Against the Mules, Stephan Danyluk won a 3-0 point at number two in addition to sweeps by Takesian and Fantini. But it was the first-year class that proved to be the difference, as rookies Andrew Ward (#6) and Max Bearse (#9) both collected key points to close out the win, including a five-set comeback win by Bearse, who rallied from a 2-0 deficit.

The Polar Bears will welcome their busiest weekend of the season beginning on Friday, as both the men's and women's teams will play host to the "Maine Event" at the Lubin Center. The men's team will play five matches in three days beginning on Friday while the women have six matches scheduled over the three days. Both teams will open against Drexel on Friday evening at 6:00 p.m.
