BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College squash teams swept Wesleyan in a pair of mid-week home matches on Wednesday evening at the Lubin Family Squash Center.

The Polar Bear men, ranked 22nd nationally, upset the 18th-ranked Cardinals in a tight 5-4 decision. The Bowdoin women, ranked 19th, coasted to an 8-1 win over the 20th-ranked Wesleyan women.

In the men's match, Bowdoin got 3-0 wins from Stephan Danyluk (#2), Barrett Takesian (#3) and Andrew Sprague (#8). The Polar Bears sealed the win with a 3-1 decision from Max Bearse at #9 and a come-from-behind 3-1 victory from Reid Wilson at #5.

Despite the final score, the Bowdoin women had their hands full with the Cardinals, as the Polar Bears needed four players to go the distance in five sets. Bonnie Cao (#8) and Christiana Whitcomb (#9) took 3-0 wins for Bowdoin while Rachel Barnes (#2) and Alden Drake (#3) picked up 3-1 victories. Monica Wlodarczyk (#4), Elizabeth Schetman (#5), Michaela Martin (#6) and Sara Wlodarczyk (#7) all earned hard-fought 3-2 wins to clinch the Bowdoin victory.

The teams will enjoy a rare off-weekend before returning to action next week. The men will play at rival Bates in their next match on January 25 before returning home to play Colby on the 26th. The women will join the men in hosting the Maine Event at the Lubin Center from January 27-29, featuring three full days of intercollegiate squash action.
