Monks Shut Out Men's Soccer in Sunday Matchup

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Saint Joseph's College men's soccer team kept its shutout streak alive with a 1-0 victory at Bowdoin on Sunday afternoon.

The Polar Bears are 1-2-0 on the season after a pair of setbacks over the weekend. The Monks have not surrendered a goal this season and climb to 5-0-0.

Game Highlights

  • The most promising look for either team in the first half came in the final minute as Jacob Rockwood set up a dangerous cross in front of Bowdoin's net.
  • In the second half, Cody Elliott carried into the box but Chris Kingston smothered the attempt at close range.
  • Six minutes into the frame, Drake Byrd curled a free kick just over the crossbar from outside the box.
  • The Monks converted on a free kick in the 65th minute, set up by Elliot. The junior found Brett Mattos on the far left post for a quick volley into net.
  • With eight minutes remaining in the game, Bowdoin sustained pressure in the offensive zone but was unable to convert.
  • Alex Chaban nearly buried a shot, turning towards net in the box, and booted a shot just wide of the left post.
