2017 Recap (10-7): The Polar Bears found their stride late in the season, winning three of their last four regular season games to qualify for the NESCAC Tournament as the seventh seed. Once in the tournament, Bowdoin bounced second-seeded Tufts 2-1 in the quarterfinals to reach the NESCAC semifinals before seeing their season come to a close. It was the 26th consecutive double-digit win season for Bowdoin, the longest such streak in all of Division III field hockey. The Polar Bears ended the season ranked 17th in the NFHCA Division III poll.
2018 Preview: Bowdoin returns its top three scorers and nine players who started at least seven games for the squad last fall. Senior Elizabeth Bennewitz and junior Kara Finnerty were both All-NESCAC performers in 2017 while Finnerty was also named an NFHCA All-American with a team-best 12 goals. Bennewitz finished with five goals, six assists and four defensive saves and junior Emma Stevens recorded nine goals. Additionally, goaltender Maddie Ferrucci (1.54 GAA), who started all 17 games last season, returns between the pipes for the Polar Bears. Bowdoin enters the season ranked 15th in the NFHCA preseason poll.
2018 Schedule: The Polar Bears open the season with three consecutive home games, beginning on September 5 against UNE at 7:00 p.m. A pair of NESCAC contests follow against Amherst (Sep. 8) and Bates (Sep. 12) at Ryan Field. Bowdoin will play nine home games in all, including NESCAC matches vs. Trinity (Oct. 6) and Connecticut College (Oct. 20) before closing the regular season against Tufts at home on October 24.
