BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bowdoin College first-year Rachel Kennedy (Trumbull, Conn.) has been named the New England Small College Athletic Conference Player of the Week.

Kennedy scored two goals to lead the Polar Bears to an important 3-2 triumph over Trinity on Saturday. After opening the scoring in the early stages of the first half, the forward broke a 2-2 tie with just under 20 minutes remaining in regulation.

The first-year from Westminster School is enjoying a phenomenal rookie campaign, ranking fourth on the team in scoring with nine goals and two assists. Her 20 points are second in the NESCAC among rookies while four of her nine tallies have been game-winning goals. Kennedy is the first Bowdoin first-year to surpass the 20-point plateau since Ingrid Oelschlager in 2007.

It is the first time this fall that NESCAC Field Hockey Player of the Week honors have gone to a rookie and the third straight week that a Polar Bear has netted the award. Katie Riley took the conference's weekly honor in each of the past two weeks.

Bowdoin will close out its regular season on Wednesday evening at Tufts University. The game, which was originally scheduled for a 4:30 start, has been moved to a 6:00 p.m. start time.
