Field Hockey Ranked 11th in Preseason Division III Poll

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College field hockey team is ranked 11th in the nation according to a Preseason Poll released Tuesday by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association. The Polar Bears, who finished the 2009 campaign with a record of 10-6, received a pair of first-place votes in the poll.

Winners of the 2007 and '08 Division III crowns, the Polar Bears reached the NESCAC Semifinals a year ago and missed out on an NCAA Tournament bid for the first time in five seasons. They will look to return to the field this year, as the squad returns seven of their top eight scorers from 2009.

The NFHCA Preseason Poll features five NESCAC teams, including #14 Amherst College. Bowdoin will open their season at home against the Jeffs at September 11. Game time is set for 11:00 a.m.

The Polar Bears will be captained by Shannon Malloy and Ingrid Oelschlager in 2010.
