BRUNSWICK, Maine – Bowdoin junior Michael Chen (Crystal Lake, Ill.) has been named the New England Small College Athletic Conference Special Teams Player of the Week.
Chen was excellent for the Polar Bears in Bowdoin's first win of the season on Saturday, a 31-14 victory over Bates. He gave Bowdoin the lead for good with a 31-yard field goal in the second quarter and converted all four PAT's on the day for the Polar Bears.
Additionally, he helped Bowdoin win the field position battle with his punting, averaging 41.3 yards per kick in extremely windy conditions. Midway through the fourth quarter, Chen's final punt of the day pinned Bates at their own 1, helping squelch all hopes of a late rally.
The Polar Bears will close out their season this Saturday when they head to Waterville to face Colby at 1:00 p.m. for the CBB Championship.
