Cleary and Cardew Featured in Sports Illustrated's "Faces in the Crowd"

BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bowdoin College football players Joey Cleary (Winchester, Mass.) and Griffin Cardew (Ipswich, Mass.) are both featured in the October 31st issue of Sports Illustrated scheduled to hit shelves this week. The duo were profiled as part of the magazine's weekly "Faces in the Crowd" segment.

Cleary and Cardew boasted a pair historic interceptions in Bowdoin's October 8 victory at Tufts. Cleary intercepted a second-quarter pass at the Bowdoin 1 and returned it 99 yards for a touchdown. Cardew then intercepted a fourth-quarter pass in the Bowdoin endzone and returned it 100 yards to paydirt.

It was the first time in Division III history that a team had returned two interceptions of at least 99 yards for a score in the same game. Additionally, the two returns became the longest plays in the 120-year history of Bowdoin football.

The Sports Illustrated appearance is the latest in a line of high-profile appearances for the duo, who were also featured on ESPN SportsCenter, ESPNU and NBC Sports Talk [click here to view ESPN and ESPNU highlights].
