Bowdoin assistant coach Erin Summers hails from Stilwell, Kansas and has a 17-year playing background in the sport of volleyball. A three-year varsity letter-winner in three different sports in high school, she attended Truman State University in Missouri and received a Master's Degree in Marine Biology from the Boston University Marine Program. She is currently employed at the Maine Department of Marine Resources, where she heads up the Large Whale and Sea Turtle Conservation Program.

Summers has coached at both the youth and collegiate level. She has coached Junior Olympic teams in North Carolina and in Maine. She was the assistant coach at Southern Maine in 2005 and has been a critical part of the Polar Bear team since 2006.
