Women's Volleyball Splits Season-Opening Matches at Endicott Invitational

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College women's volleyball team split a pair of season-opening matches at the Endicott College Invitational Friday evening.

The Polar Bears won their opener, 3-0 (25-9, 25-22, 25-20) over Sage before falling to 16th-ranked Eastern 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 25-20). Bowdoin (1-1) will return to action Saturday against UMass-Boston at noon and Endicott at 4:00 p.m.

Bowdoin featured stellar all-around play in dispatching Sage to open the year. Sophia Cornew dished out 31 assists and Hailey Wahl had five aces as the Polar Bears cruised to the shutout win.

The Polar Bears held their own against Eastern, but fell in three-straight hard-fought sets. Christy Jewett had nine kills, nine digs and six blocks in the loss while Cornew had 23 assists and 14 digs. Taylor Vail had 16 digs while Ellie Brennan had six blocks for Bowdoin.
