NEW LONDON, Conn. - The UMass-Boston volleyball team earned a 3-2 (25-14, 18-25, 25-22, 12-25, 15-13) victory against Bowdoin College in the third round of the NCAA Division III Volleyball Championship hosted by Connecticut College at Luce Field House Sunday.

Head Coach Terry Condon's Beacons (20-11) will travel to Hope College in Holland, Michigan to take on Christopher Newport University (38-2) in an NCAA Quarterfinal match-up played Thursday in DeVoes Field House.  Bowdoin College, who set a program record for wins, closes out its historic season with a record of 28-5.

At the conclusion of Sunday's match Bowdoin senior Tory Edelman and junior setter Sophia Cornew were named to the All-Regional Team.

Shannon Thompson exploded with 16 kills, 16 digs and seven blocks for the winning side while libero Kayla Wilson posted 24 digs for the Beacons. Edelman finished with 14 kills for the Polar Bears. Ellie Brennan had 11 kills, four digs and four blocks. Cederna buried eight kills to go with 13 digs while Melissa Haskell contributed seven kills and 15 digs for Bowdoin. Sophia Cornew dished out 32 assists and Taylor Vail registered a match-high 27 digs for the Polar Bears.

The fifth set was a back and forth battle that featured five ties. When Thompson buried a kill from the right side to make it a 13-10 contest, the Beacons appeared to be on their way. But back-to-back attacking errors and a monster kill from Brennan from the right side forced the fifth tie at 13. However, the Beacons used kills from Amber Clemons and Thompson to close out the match with a 15-13 triumph.
