Women's Volleyball Returns to Winning Ways in Decisive Victory at Colby

Melissa Haskell led the Polar Bears with 11 kills against Colby

WATERVILLE, Maine - Melissa Haskell finished with 11 kills and setter Sophia Cornew had 30 assists as the Bowdoin College volleyball team took a 3-0 victory over Colby College in New England Small College Athletic Conference play Friday night at Wadsworth Gymnasium.
 
The Polar Bears move to 13-2 overall and 4-1 in conference play heading into two matches at two sites on Saturday. Bowdoin travels to Bates College for an 11:30 a.m. match and then later hosts Tufts University at 6 p.m.  Colby, which falls to 8-5 overall and 1-3 in league play, will entertain Tufts at 11 a.m. Saturday.
 
Bowdoin took big leads in all three sets in taking a 25-13, 25-12, 25-22 win. The Polar Bears led 16-6 in the third set, but Colby did fight back to make it a 22-20 deficit at one point.
 
Haskell had a 42 percent attack rate, nine digs, and two service aces. Cornew added team-highs of 13 digs and three service aces. Ellie Brennan finished with seven kills and a pair of blocks and Taylor Vail had 10 digs.
 
Emily Varni led Colby with 15 digs and a match-high four aces, while Kate Pleasants dished 18 assists and had 15 digs.
