BRUNSWICK, Maine - Melissa Haskell posted a match-high 18 kills to lead the Bowdoin College women's volleyball team to a 3-0 win over UMass Boston on Tuesday evening in a non-conference match at Morrell Gymnasium.
The Polar Bears, who won by game scores of 25-23, 30-28, 25-21, claimed their 39th consecutive home victory and improve to 11-1 this fall. The Beacons drop to 9-5 on the year. It marks the second time Bowdoin has beaten UMass Boston this season after dropping a pair of matches, including an NCAA Tournament game, to the Beacons last year.
Bowdoin rallied from a 19-17 hole to take the first set and then rebounded from a late deficit to take a dramatic 30-28 win in set two. Haskell was outstanding, racking up 10 digs and two aces to go with her 18 kills. Christy Jewett had nine kills while Sophia Cornew had 15 digs and 40 assists in the win for Bowdoin.
UMass Boston was led by eight kills from Amber Clemons and seven each from Molly Witzmann and Corrine Porter. Emma Rocha led the Beacons with 17 assists while Shannon Thompson had a team-best 14 digs.
