Women's Volleyball Garners Top NEWVA Academic Award
BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College women's volleyball team
has earned the prestigious Academic Team Award from the New England
Women's Volleyball Association. The Polar Bears were one of just
seven schools to earn the honor, exceeding the required team GPA of
3.30 for the fall semester.
The NEWVA Academic Team Award was established in 2008 to recognize
the hard work and dedication of the teams’ student-athletes
off the court and in the classroom. Bowdoin was joined in the
region by Connecticut College, Emerson, Husson, MIT, Middlebury and
Williams. Four Polar Bears took individual honors last semester, as
Jenna Diggs (La Jolla, Calif.), Stephanie Drumright (San Francisco,
Calif.), Kelsey Howe (Sandy, Utah) and Gillian Page (Mercer Island,
Wash.) took Academic All-NESCAC recognition.
The Polar Bears finished their 2009 campaign with a record of
19-11 as the senior class of Page, Howe and Diggs finish their
careers with the second-most wins of any class in program history
(73). In addition to their 73 victories, the trio are the only
class in Bowdoin women's volleyball history to post four
consecutive .500 or better seasons and hold the best winning
percentage (.574) of any class in program history.
