BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College track and field teams split their fourth home invitational of the season this Saturday at Farley Field House.
In a field that included Tufts, Colby, Southern Maine, Coast Guard and St. Joseph's, the Polar Bear men finished first while the women took second in a hotly-contested meet.
The Bowdoin men totaled 174 points to defeat closest rival Tufts (157). The Tufts women claimed the crown with 152 points, edging Bowdoin (144) and Colby (142).
For the men's team, Coby Horowitz broke his own school record in the 1000 meter run (2:28.95) and also took first in the mile run (4:21.77). Nick Walker was the other winner for the Polar Bears, taking first place in the 5000 meters (15:16.83).
On the women's side, Lucy Skinner claimed first in a pair of events - the 1000 meters (3:06.75) and the mile run (5:11.77) - while Meghan Bellerose won the 600 meter run (1:40.94). In the field events, Katherine Harmon won the weight throw with a personal best of 15.65 meters. Addison Carvajal took the high jump with a leap of 1.55 meters while Katherine Krupp won the triple jump with a total distance of 10.91 meters.
The men's team will set their sights on the Maine State Championship next weekend as they host the state meet on Saturday night beginning at 6:00 p.m. The women will compete at the Tufts Invitational next Saturday.
