Katherine Harmon Earns All-American at NCAA Track Championship

Harmon set the school record in the hammer throw, placing eighth at NCAA's

LA CROSSE, Wis. - For the second straight day, a Bowdoin athlete set a new school record and earned All-American honors at the Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championship.

Friday, it was junior hammer thrower Katherine Harmon who, after entering the competition seeded 13th, threw a distance of 172' 6" to take eighth place and earn her first All-American award. The Auburn, Maine native broke the school mark on her second throw of the day, surpassing the mark of 172' 4" formerly held by Louise Duffus '07.

Harmon joins sophomore Erin Silva, who earned a seventh-place finish and All-American status in the pole vault on Thursday.

In other Bowdoin action on Friday, first-year Jacob Ellis finished second in his 800 meter heat (1:51.50) and is seeded fifth entering Saturday's final. Coby Horowitz will also run in the 1500 meter and 5K races on the final day of the championship Saturday.
