Women's Track and Field Wins Fifth Consecutive Indoor State Championship

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College women's indoor track and field team captured the 2013 Maine State Intercollegiate Indoor Track & Field Championship Friday evening at Farley Field House.

The Polar Bears claimed their fifth consecutive state crown by totaling 203.60 points, edging Bates (185.60) and Colby (183.80). Southern Maine finished with 110 points followed by St. Joseph's (15) and Husson (3).

Bowdoin boasted five individual winners en route to the title. Samantha Copland broke her own Bowdoin record with a time of 8.06 in the 60 meter dash to claim the state crown. Michele Kaufman won the state title in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 9.20.

The Polar Bears had an exceptional showing in the field events, taking a quartet of first-place showings. Erin Silva won the pole vault with a height of 3.38 meters, Katherine Krupp won the triple jump with a distance of 10.72 meters, Randi London claimed the shot put with a throw of 11.78 meters and Katherine Harmon (pictured, left) took the weight throw with a toss of 14.17 meters.

The Bowdoin men will compete at the Maine Men's Indoor Track and Field Championship on Saturday evening at Southern Maine.
