Track Teams Score Multiple Victories at Wesleyan Invitational

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - The Bowdoin College indoor track and field teams posted several winning performances in a non-scoring meet Saturday at Wesleyan University.

Samantha Copland and Michele Kaufman led the way with a pair of wins each for Bowdoin. Copland took first in both the 60 meter dash (8.13) and 200 meter dash (27.21). Kaufman captured the 60 meter hurdles (9.35) and the long jump (5.08 meters).

Other winners for the Bowdoin women included Lucy Skinner, who took first place in the mile (5:26.82), Erin Silva in the pole vault (3.48 meters), Hayleigh Kein in the high jump (1.57 meters) and Katherine Harmon in the weight throw (14.53 meters).

Bowdoin's women's relay teams had an exceptional afternoon, winning all three events. The 4x200 meter relay team placed first behind the efforts of Morgan Browning, Emily Snider, Carolyn Veilleux and Camille Wasinger in 1:54.52. The 4x400 relay team of Addison Carvajal, Browning, Liz Znamierowski and Emily Clark was first in 4:20.96 while the distance medley team of Maggie Bryan, Wasinger, ALana Menendez and Gina Stalica crushed the field in 12:46.55.

On the men's side, Bowdoin had a handful of single-event winners. Kyle LeBlanc again won the 60 meter dash for the Polar Bears (7.14) while Sam Chick took first in the 600 meters (1:24.66). Jacob Ellis claimed the 800 meters (2:03.01) while Nicholas Walker won the 1000 race (2:40.53) and Toby Zitsman the 5000 (16:49.41). In the field events, Andrew Zembruski won the high jump with a height of 1.88 meters.

The men's team took two of three relay competitions, winning the 4x400 behind Matthew Gamache, Seamus Power, Jarred Kennedy-Loving and Chick in 3:31.00. The distance medley squad of James Boeding, Lonnie Hackett, James Sullivan and Nicholas Saba took first place in 10:44.37.

The women's team will return to action Friday evening when they host the Maine State Championship at 6:00 p.m. at Farley Field House. The men will travel to Southern Maine on Saturday evening at 6:00 p.m. for their State Meet.
