WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - The Bowdoin College women's tennis team rallied from a 2-1 deficit in doubles play to defeat Wesleyan, 5-3, in the opening round of the NESCAC Tournament on Friday afternoon at Williams College.

The fifth-seeded Polar Bears improve to 14-4 and advance to face top-seeded Middlebury at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday in the NESCAC Semifinals.

Match Highlights

  • The Polar Bears were on the verge of being down 3-0 in doubles, but Pilar Giffenig/Sasa Jovanovic rallied for a 9-8 win at #3 doubles, cutting the Cardinal lead to 2-1.
  • Bowdoin chipped away in singles action, getting straight-set wins from Tess Trinka (6-2, 6-4) at #2, Tasha Christ at #4 (6-2, 6-2) and Sasa Jovanovic at #6 (6-2, 6-4) to take a 4-3 lead with two singles matches remaining.
  • Pilar Giffenig closed out the win, capturing an impressive 6-4, 6-0 win at #5 singles to clinch the victory for Bowdoin.
