Women's Tennis Nets At-Large NCAA Bid, Earns Regional Hosting Rights

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College women's tennis team has earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament and will host a regional this weekend at the Pickard Tennis Courts.

Action begins on Friday, May 10 with a pair of neutral-site First Round matches as Bridgewater State (13-2) faces Endicott (18-3) at 11:00 a.m. before #22 MIT (16-4) battles Simmons (15-5) at 2:30 p.m. Fifth-ranked Bowdoin (14-4) and sixth-ranked Middlebury (11-6) both received byes into Saturday's second round. If matches are forced indoors on Friday, they will be played as necessary at the Maine Pines Tennis Center, approximately 1/4 mile from the outdoor site.

The Bridgewater State/Endicott winner will play Bowdoin on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. while the MIT/Simmons victor advances to play Middlebury at 2:30 p.m. If matches are moved indoors on Saturday, they will be played at Foreside Fitness and Tennis in Falmouth, Maine.

Saturday's winners will play in the regional final on Sunday at noon. The back-up indoor site for Sunday is Maine Pines.

Kalamazoo College will host the team championships finals, which will be held May 20-22 at Stowe Stadium in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

This will be the 12th consecutive NCAA Division III Tournament appearance for Bowdoin. Last spring, the Polar Bears reached the National Quarterfinals for just the second time in program history.
