Bowdoin Pushes Williams To Limit in Eventual Loss to Top-Ranked Ephs

Emma Lewis won the lone singles point for Bowdoin in Saturday's loss to Williams

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The top-ranked Williams College women's tennis team prevailed in a competitive 6-3 decision over Bowdoin on Saturday afternoon.

The Polar Bears, winners of three-straight matches entering play, finish their regular season with a mark of 10-7 (5-3 NESCAC). The Ephs conclude their regular season with a mark of 18-1 (7-0 NESCAC). Both teams will compete at the NESCAC Championship at Williams beginning on Friday, May 4. Pairings will be announced on Monday.

Bowdoin appeared to be in great shape in the early going after winning two of the three doubles matches to open the competition. Emma Lewis and Kellen Alberstone (#1) and Kate Winingham/Emily Lombardi (#3) both took strong 8-5 wins to put the Polar Bears in great position heading into singles play. But the Polar Bears could muster only one singles win, courtesy of Lewis at #5 in the eventual loss, despite pushingthree singles matches to three sets - all won by the Ephs.
