Women's Tennis Releases 2009 Fall Tournament Slate
BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College women's tennis team will play in four tournaments and one dual match this coming autumn, as the 2009 fall schedule was released on Wednesday. The Polar Bears, who finished the 2008-09 campaign ranked 17th in Division III, reaching the regional final of the NCAA Tournament.

Sarah D'Elia Advances to Semifinals, Earns All-American
LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Bowdoin College women's tennis player Sarah D'Elia fell in the NCAA Semifinals on Saturday afternoon, finishing her season as the school's second All-American. D'Elia's semifinal berth is the first-ever for a Polar Bear women's tennis player as the senior closes her season with an overall record of 20-7.

Sarah D'Elia Named ITA Northeast Senior Player of the Year
BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bowdoin women's tennis captain Sarah D'Elia (Fairfield, Conn.) has been named the Division III Northeast Region Senior Player of the Year by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. The first Bowdoin player to ever receive the honor, D'Elia is one of four players nationally to be nominated for the ITA's Division III Senior Player of the Year.

Polar Bears Fall in NCAA Second Round to Tufts
AMHERST, Mass. - The Bowdoin College women's tennis team saw their season come to an end in a heartbreaking 5-4 defeat to Tufts in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday afternoon at Amherst College. The Polar Bears won two of three doubles matches and led by a 4-1 score before Tufts rebounded to win the final four singles matches.

Polar Bears Sink Corsairs in NCAA First Round Match
AMHERST, Mass. - The Bowdoin College women's tennis team cruised past UMass-Dartmouth in the opening round of the NCAA Division III Tournament on Friday, 5-0. The Polar Bears improve to 9-8 this season and will face Tufts for the third time in three weeks in the second round of the tournament on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. The Corsairs end their season with a mark of 15-2.

D'Elia and Lombardi Net All-NESCAC, NCAA Bids
BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College women's tennis team earned two selections to the All-New England Small College Athletic Conference team announced on Friday. In addition to being named First Team All-Conference in singles and doubles, captain Sarah D'Elia (Fairfield, Conn.) was recognized with the Senior Sportswoman Award. First-year Emily Lombardi (Hinsdale, Ill.) was a First Team choice in doubles with D'Elia and also garnered Second Team recognition in singles.

Women's Tennis Nets At-Large NCAA Tournament Berth
BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College women's tennis team has earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament in selections announced on Monday. The Polar Bears (8-8) will play in a regional in Amherst, Mass. this weekend and will open on Friday against Mass.-Dartmouth in a first-round match. The winner will play Tufts in a second-round match on Saturday.

Tufts Blanks Bowdoin in NESCAC First-Round Match
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - The Tufts University women's tennis team swept Bowdoin College by a score of 5-0 to eliminate the Polar Bears from the NESCAC tournament at Williams College on Friday. The fifth-seeded Polar Bears (8-8) will hope for an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament when selections are announced on Monday, May 4.

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The 19th-ranked Tufts University women's tennis team dealt 18th-ranked Bowdoin an 8-1 setback in both team's regular season finales on Sunday. The Polar Bears finish their year with an 8-7 record (4-3 NESCAC) while the Jumbos stand at 8-4 (6-3 NESCAC). Both teams will prepare for the conference tournament that begins at Williams next weekend.

WATERVILLE, Maine - The Bowdoin College women's tennis team cruised past Colby in a 9-0 victory on Wednesday evening. The 18th-ranked Polar Bears are 6-5 overall and 3-1 in NESCAC play. Emily Lombardi won at first singles and teamed with Sarah D’Elia for a win at first doubles to lead the Polar Bears. With the victory, Bowdoin compelted a sweep of their in-state rivals Bates and Colby to win the C-B-B Championship.

Polar Bears Edged By Sixth-Ranked Amherst
AMHERST, Mass. – The 6th-ranked Amherst College women’s tennis team rallied in singles play this afternoon to take a come-from behind win over 12th-ranked Bowdoin College. The Polar Bears held a 2-1 edge after doubles play, but the Lord Jeff singles line-up won four of six matches to lift Amherst to the 5-4 win. Sarah D'Elia and Emily Lombardi earned a joint doubles win and singles points in the loss.

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College women's tennis team took a 7-2 victory over Connecticut College in their home opener on Sunday at Farley Field House. The Polar Bears, ranked 12th nationally, improve to 5-4 overall and 2-0 in conference play. The Camels drop to 1-5 (0-1 NESCAC) with the loss. The Polar Bears will return to action at sixth-ranked Amherst on Sunday, April 5.

BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bowdoin College women's tennis coach Hobie Holbach has been named the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) New England Coach of the Year. Holbach led the Polar Bears to a program-best campaign in his inaugural season of 2007-08, a #8 end-of-year ranking and the team's first-ever NCAA Quarterfinal appearance.
