BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College men's and women's swimming and diving teams hosted Babson and MIT in a season-opening meet at Greason Pool on Saturday.
The MIT men and women went undefeated, beating both Bowdoin and Babson. The Engineer men beat Bowdoin 215-82 and Babson 240-57. The Bowdoin men beat Babson head-to-head, 205-90. In the women's meet, MIT sank Bowdoin 194-93 and Babson 233-49. The Bowdoin women also beat Babson 216-61.
On the women's side, Bowdoin's 200 medley relay finished second (1:50.60) with strong showings from Holly Rudel, Helen Newton, Katie Kronick, and Sophia Walker. Newton and Maeve O'Leary took a 1-2 finish in the 100 breaststroke, with Newton finishing in 1:09.23 and O'Leary touching at 1:11.21. Walker had a second place individual showing in the 50 freestyle (24.93) and first in the 200 yard breaststroke (2.31:20). Lela Garner tallied a pair of second place finishes in both the 500 free (5:26.53) and 200 IM (2:18.16). Sage Mikami finished first in both diving events with 218.02 in the three meter and 219.74 in the one meter.
Thomas Kramer and Joshua Ellis finished 1-2 in both the one and three meter diving events. Kramer tallied 269.10 and first place in the one meter, while Ellis took the top spot in the three meter with 256.27. Bowdoin's Timothy Long captured the men's team's lone first place finish in the 1000 yard freestyle. Finishing in 9:58.36, Long outpaced his competitors by more than 11 seconds. JR Chansakul and Nathan Garner finished the 200 breaststroke with times of 2:14.06 and 2:16.54, respectively, for second and third placefinishes.
Bowdoin will be back in action on December 6-7 at the MIT Invitational.
