Caitlin Callahan Sets School Record, Earns All-NESCAC Recognition
BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bowdoin College junior Caitlin Callahan
(Essex, Conn.) has received All-New England Small College Athletic
Conference recognition based on her showing last weekend at the
conference championship meet. Callahan placed second in the 50 yard
breaststroke as the top three finishers in each event at the 2009
NESCAC Championship garnered All-Conference honors.
Callahan set a new Bowdoin record in the event, posting a time of
30.47 seconds to finish just .41 seconds behind the winning pace.
Her time breaks the record set by Molly Fey in 1995. In addition to
her runner-up placement in the 50 breaststroke, Callahan just
missed out on All-Conference honors by .23 seconds to place fourth
in the 100 breaststroke. Callahan then teamed with Erin McAuliffe,
Megan Sullivan and Allison Palmer to place fifth in the 200 medley
relay, setting a new school record in a time of 1:50.34.
Other top showings by Polar Bears at the championship included
Palmer setting a new school record in the 100 freestyle (53.03),
edging the mark previously held by Katie Chapman, and taking sixth
overall. Palmer also placed sixth in the 50 freestyle race (24.44).
Finally, the 400 freestyle relay team of Sullivan, Jessie Small,
Allen Garner and Palmer posted a time of 3:35.28 in the 400
freestyle relay, setting a new program record and taking sixth
overall.
