Women's Squash Beats Colby, Conn in Weekend Home Matches
BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College women's squash team returned to its winning ways this weekend with two wins at the Lubin Family Squash Center.
The Polar Bears, who rank 20th in the latest College Squash Association poll, snapped a four-game losing streak to defeat Colby on Friday, 8-1. After falling to #15 Williams, 8-1, on Saturday morning, Bowdoin bounced back to blank Conn. College 9-0 to improve to 4-5 this season.
Against the Mules, Bowdoin took command early and left little doubt about the eventual outcome. Rachel Barnes and Sarah Nelson both took 3-0 wins at #1 and #2, respectively, while Sara Wlodarczyk (#6) and Emily Simonton (#8) also took home 3-0 sweeps. Michaela Martin won 3-1 at #3, Aldren Drake won 3-2 at #4, Christiana Whitcomb won 3-2 and #7 and Natalie LaPlant won 3-1 at #9 to round out the Bowdoin victors.
First-year Sarah Nelson accounted for the lone Bowdoin point in the loss to Williams, earning an impressive 3-0 win at #2, and then taking another 3-0 win in the afternoon victory over Conn. College. In fact, the Polar Bears earned 3-0 sweeps at the top seven positions against the Camels, as Barnes (#1), Martin (#3), Drake (#4), Chloe Polikoff (#5), Simonton (#6) and LaPlant (#7) each earned shutouts. Katherine Gracey took a 3-0 win at #9 and Nicole Ampatey earned a 3-1 victory at #8 to round out the win for Bowdoin.
The Polar Bears will look to continue their winning ways on Tuesday afternoon at home against Wesleyan University. Match time is set for 1:30 p.m.
