Women's Squash Places Eighth at NESCAC Championship
HARTFORD, Conn. - The Bowdoin College women's squash team finished in eighth place, going 1-3, at the NESCAC Squash Championship hosted by Trinity last weekend. The Polar Bears claimed their opening-round match against Colby on Friday before being eliminated from title contention in a loss to eventual-champion Trinity in the quarterfinals.
The Polar Bears dominated the lower end of the ladder in the first round win against the Mules, as Bowdoin claimed points in five of the last six matches to clinch a 6-3 win. Lauren Gesswein earned a 3-1 victory at the top position while Elizabeth Schetman (#4) and Bonnie Cao (#5) both notched 3-0 sweeps. The Polar Bears survived a trio of five-set battles to seal the win, courtesy of Alexandra Peacock-Villada (#6), Michaela Martin (#8) and Gretchen Williams (#9).
After being blanked by the Bantams, 9-0, the Polar Bears lost a pair of consolation matches to Amherst (8-1) and Wesleyan (7-2) to round out their weekend. Gesswein earned points at the #1 spot in both matches while Gretchen Williams (#9) took a victory against Wesleyan.
