BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bridget Gallagher scored the game's only goal as the Williams College women's soccer team dealt Bowdoin its first home loss of the season, 1-0 on Sunday afternoon.
The Ephs improve to 7-2-1 (6-0-1 NESCAC) on the season with the win. Bowdoin dips to 8-2-0 (4-2-0 NESCAC) with the setback.
Gallagher came off the bench early to deliver the game-winner in the 15th minute. She received a pass from Carla Nicasio on the right side of the box and ripped a strike that tucked inside the left post, just beyond the outstretched arms of Bowdoin netminder Bridget McCarthy at 14:03.
The Polar Bears would control the pace of play for the majority of the second half, but could not find the equalizer. Their best chance came off a perfectly-place corner kick by Alexa Yurick with 11 minutes to go. The ball came to the head of Toni DaCampo, forcing a diving save by Williams goaltender Hannah Van Wetter.
McCarthy finished with two saves in the loss for Bowdoin. Laura Wann made four stops in the first half for Williams before Van Wetter came in at halftime to make on save over the final 45 minutes.
Bowdoin will play a pair of road matches next weekend at Hamilton on Saturday and at Amherst on Sunday.
