Four Different Scorers Key Bowdoin Win Over Bridgewater
BRIDGEWATER, Mass. - Senior midfielder Dana Riker and first-year
forward Stacie Sammott each tallied a goal and an assist to lead
the Bowdoin College women’s soccer team to a 4-0 shutout
victory over host Bridgewater State College this afternoon in
Bridgewater. The Polar Bears improve to 6-4 on the season, while
BSC drops to 4-6-2.
Riker opened the scoring with her fourth goal of the season off an
assist from Sammott in the 11th minute. Freshman forward Nicole
Fossi assisted on Ellery Gould's 11th goal of the season in the
31st minute as Bowdoin led 2-0 at the intermission.
Sammott netted her first career goal off a corner kick in 64th
minute as she picked up a loose ball in front of the goal mouth and
knocked it into the unguarded net. Junior defender Tiernan Cutler
rounded out the scoring in the 83rd minute as she also scored her
first goal of the season. Cutler headed in a corner kick served
into the box off the foot of Riker.
Junior goaltender Kat Flaherty made two saves to record her third
shutout of the season for the Polar Bears. BSC junior netminder
Kayla Grover turned aside ten shots between the pipes for the
Bears.
Bowdoin hosts NESCAC rival Williams College on Saturday at 1:30
PM.
