Women's Rugby Tames Black Bears in Regular Season Finale
Amanda Montenegro was part of a dominant offensive performance by Bowdoin against Maine Saturday

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College women's rugby team completed its regular season with a 56-12 win over the University of Maine-Orono Saturday at Pickard Field.

The Polar Bears, who conclude the regular season with a 6-1 mark, will host the New England Small College Rugby Conference Championship next Saturday, November 2 against Tufts University at 1:00 p.m. Bowdoin claimed the 2012 NESCRC title with a win over Middlebury last fall.

Against Maine on Saturday, the Polar Bears owned the time of possession and varied attacks to dominate the Black Bears. Emily Athanas-Linden opened the scoring with a hard run down the left sideline, from a feed from scrumhalf Kameryn Sanchez, and also added a second-half try. First-year Paige Pfannenstiel scored two tries from the wing and assisted on another to classmate Cammie Ogden-Fung.

Captains Maura Allen and Amanda Montenegro had exceptional two-way matches for the Polar Bears. Allen scored early in the first half, while Montenegro cut upfield on several occasions to spark the Bowdoin offense. Addison Carvajal took a pass from Montenegro and scored one of her tries on a blistering run up the middle from 20 meters out.  In the 2nd half, Carvajal was awarded a penalty try and connected on three conversion kicks.

Fullback Hayleigh Kein and lock Anna Piotti both added tries to close out the Bowdoin scoring.

Bowdoin will look to avenge its only loss next weekend against the Jumbos. The Polar Bears dropped a 29-17 decision to Tufts on September 28.
