Women's Rugby Trio Earns Academic Honors From USA Rugby

Althea Cavanaugh graduated in May with a degree in Neuroscience

BRUNSWICK, Maine - Three members of the Bowdoin College women's rugby team have been named to USA Rugby's National Collegiate Academic Honor Roll.

Recently-graduated Althea Cavanaugh '13 (Brockton, Mass.), along with Maura Allen '14 (Superior, Colo.) and Laurel Mast '14 (Hillsboro, Ore.) were all recognized for their work in the classroom.

In order to qualify for the Academic Honor Roll, a student must be at least a junior, be a consistent starter on their team and have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.7. Cavanaugh, Allen and Mast were three of just 89 athletes across 900 collegiate teams to be honored.

Cavanaugh graduated in the spring with a degree in Neuroscience. Allen majors in Government and Legal Studies while Mast owns a double-major in Mathematics and Philosophy.

The trio helped lead Bowdoin to an outstanding season that included a perfect 9-0 regular season (6-0 in New England Small College Rugby Conference play), winning the inaugural NESCRC title over Middlebury and advancing to the USA Rugby Division II Tournament.

The Polar Bears will open their regular season at Colby on September 14.
