KINGSTON, R.I. - The Bowdoin College women's rugby team earned a pair of wins Saturday at the University of Rhode Island in preparation for next weekend's Division II First Round playoff game.
The Polar Bears opened against UConn and earned a 27-5 win. Bowdoin held a 10-5 lead at halftime thanks to first-half tries from Kerry Townsend and Randi London. Bowdoin dominated the second half, getting a try from Laurel Mast and two more tries from London to cap the scoring. Defensively, Uche Esonu, Samantha Caras, Amanda Montenegro and Nneka Nnatubeugo led the way for the Polar Bears.
Bowdoin wrapped up the day with a hard-fought 10-5 win over URI. Maura Allen was responsible for Bowdoin's first score and Esonu tallied off a penalty play to give the Polar Bears all the scoring they would need.
Bowdoin will host American International College in a Division II First Round game next Saturday, April 6 at Pickard Field. Match time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
