2017 Recap (10-6): The Polar Bears came out of the gate hot, opening the season 6-1, including a win over top-ranked Middlebury to end the month of March. Bowdoin scuffled down the stretch, however, losing their last three conference games to finish league play at 5-5. As the seventh seed in the league tournament, Bowdoin traveled to Hamilton and lost a quarterfinal game, 12-9, to close out their season.
2018 Preview: The Polar Bears had three All-NESCAC performers last season and all three return to help lead the squad in 2018. Senior Hannah Hirschfeld (38-9) and sophomore Kara Finnerty (27-13) return to pace the Bowdoin offense while sophomore Caroline Maxwell was a dominant force defensively with 13 caused turnovers in 2017. In all, eight starters return to the squad this spring for the Polar Bears, including seniors Hirschfeld, midfielder Halsey McKinney, defender Grace DeWald and goaltender Kayli Weiss while Alexandra Logan came off the bench in 14 games a year ago.
Bowdoin enters the season ranked 23rd in the IWLCA Division III poll, but is joined by six other NESCAC teams in the top-25. The Polar Bears open the season at home against Conn. College on Saturday, March 3, and will also host NESCAC foes Bates (Apr. 4), Wesleyan (Apr. 14) and Tufts (Apr. 25) in a back-loaded home slate. Only three of Bowdoin's first nine games are at home and the team will close with four home contests of their final six matches.
