Jordan Smith's Six Goals Pushes Women's Lacrosse Over Wesleyan
BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bowdoin's Jordan Smith scored six goals to lead the Polar Bear women's lacrosse team to a 9-6 win over Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon at Ryan Field.
The Polar Bears improve to 6-5 (4-5 NESCAC) while the Cardinals fall to 5-8 (0-8 NESCAC).
Smith accounted for all of Bowdoin's scoring in the opening period as the Polar Bears held a 4-1 lead at intermission. After Wesleyan's Maddy Coulter cut into the lead with a goal just 1:59 into the second half, Smith sparked a decisive 5-1 run for Bowdoin with a pair of goals, pushing the lead to 9-4 with under ten minutes to play. The Cardinals scored twice in a 32 second span with under seven minutes remaining, but could get no closer.
Lindsay Picard, Megan O'Connor and Betsy Sachs also scored for Bowdoin. Molly Popolizio had two assists and three draw controls. Erica Nangeroni pitched in four caused turnovers defensively, while Isabel Sippel made five saves in net for the Polar Bears.
Caitlin Daniels led the Cardinal offense with a goal and an assist. Morgan Moubayed had a solid performance, causing three turnovers and scooping three ground balls. Nina Labovich made seven saves in goal for Wesleyan.
Bowdoin will return to action tomorrow for a non-conference game against Wheaton scheduled for 1:00 p.m. The Cardinals will travel to Tufts in their next contest, next Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
