Women's Lacrosse Extends Win Streak To Five By Taming Lyons
NORTON, Mass. - The Bowdoin College women's lacrosse team scored the first seven goals of the game and cruised to a 14-3 non-conference win at Wheaton on Saturday afternoon.
The eighth-ranked Polar Bears (11-2) extend their winning streak to five-straight games and will host Colorado College on Senior Day Sunday tomorrow afternoon at Ryan Field. Game time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. The Lyons fall to 10-6 with the loss.
Mackenzie Schleicher scored five times and added an assist in the win while Jordan Smith scored four and Betsy Sachs added three tallies and an assist. Carolyn Gorajek was held goal-less for the first time this season, but dished out a season-high three assists in the victory. Leila Mills led Wheaton by scoring all three of her team's goals in the loss.
Three goals from Schleicher and two from Sachs sparked Bowdoin's 7-0 outburst to open the game. Wheaton did not find the back of the net until the 7:57 mark as the Polar Bears carried a 8-2 lead into halftime. Bowdoin rolled off another 7-0 surge to open the second period, with Smith accounting for three goals in the run, to lead 14-2 before Mills trimmed the final score to 14-3 for the Lyons.
Tara Connolly stopped five shots and allowed two goals in 46:12 of play before giving way to Isabel Sippel, who was credited with no saves and one goal allowed over the final 13:48. In addition to her scoring, Sachs collected seven ground balls and had five caused turnovers in the victory.
Bowdoin held a 22-10 edge in shots and went 5-6 on free-position attempts. Wheaton committed 20 turnovers in the loss.
