BRUNSWICK, Maine – Williams used a third period goal to top the Bowdoin women's ice hockey team 4-3 in a back and forth matchup Saturday afternoon.
Bowdoin falls to 8-8-2 (3-5-2 NESCAC) after Williams swept the weekend. The Ehps return home 11-6-1 (8-1-1 NESCAC).
Bowdoin and Williams traded goals in the opening ten minutes of the game, with tallies from Marne Gallant and Talia Simon. Putting Bowdoin on the board two minutes in, Gallant fired a shot from the right point that slid through to the low post. Down 1-0, Williams evened the score with 9:36 off the clock as Simon teed up a shot from the center of Bowdoin's zone. Williams took the lead five minutes later with a power play goal from Gabrielle Vukasin. The Polar Bears would close the period with a goal in the final minute, as Chelsea MacNeil flipped a backhanded shot over Chloe Billadeau's shoulder.
The Polar Bears took the 3-2 lead with seven minutes remaining in the second period after Rachel Kennedy buried a pass from Emily Tang. Tang slipped a pass to her left for Kennedy who wristed the puck top shelf at 13:21. With less than two minutes remaining in the period, Hanna Beattie evened the score with the team's second power play goal. Winning the faceoff, the Ephs kicked the puck up top for the slap shot by Beattie.
With just eight minutes remaining, the game had its fourth and final lead change of the afternoon. Michaela Levine wristed a shot top right shelf from low on the opposite side to secure the Williams win.
Crofton stopped 23 shots for Bowdoin. On the other end of the ice, Billadeau blocked 25 bids for the Ephs
Bowdoin returns to Watson Arena next Friday with a weekend of NESCAC action against Trinity. The Polar Bears and Bantams faceoff at 7:00 p.m. Williams returns home to host Amherst next Friday beginning at the same time.
