BRUNSWICK, Maine – Bowdoin senior Kayla Lessard (Enfield, Conn.) has been named the New England Small College Women's Ice Hockey Player of the Week.

Lessard was outstanding in leading the Polar Bears to their first NESCAC Championship since 2004 over the weekend in Vermont. Lessard posted 27 saves, including 13 in the third period, of a 3-1 semifinal win against Amherst on Saturday. In the NESCAC title game on Sunday, Lessard made 24 stops and held Middlebury scoreless over the final 49:37 to seal the championship for Bowdoin.

Lessard, who leads the NESCAC in GAA (1.25) and is second in save percentage (.949), bettered both of those averages with a 1.00 GAA and .962 save percentage over the two games. She has been named Second Team All-NESCAC for the 2012-13 season.

The Polar Bears will host Elmira College on Saturday, March 9 at 7:00 PM in an NCAA Quarterfinal matchup. Bowdoin entered the tournament as an automatic qualifier after defeating Middlebury for the NESCAC title. Elmira earned an at-large bid as the runner-up of the ECAC with a record of 21-5-2.

Tickets will go on sale beginning at 8 a.m. on Tuesday morning, March 5, in the Athletic Department Office on the second floor of the Peter Buck Center. Tickets will be $5 for adults, $3 for students and children. Children under 2 and Bowdoin students with ID are free.
