Women's Hockey Dominates Colby in Seven-Goal Blowout Friday Night

Schuyler Nardelli now has a team-high five goals this season

WATERVILLE, Maine - Schuyler Nardelli scored a career-high four goals and goaltender Kayla Lessard posted a shutout in her season debut as the Bowdoin women's ice hockey team cruised to a 7-0 win at Colby on Friday night.

The Polar Bears improve to 2-1-0 (1-0-0 NESCAC) this season while the Mules fall to 2-3-0 (0-3-0 NESCAC). Bowdoin has won six of the last seven meetings between the teams dating back to the 2009-10 season.

After several early chances, Bowdoin scored a pair of goals just 47 seconds apart to take control of the contest. Rachel Kennedy's first career goal at 11:59 was soon followed by Nardelli's first tally of the night at 12:46.

The Mules stayed within shouting distance early in the second period but a late Bowdoin flurry put the game out of reach. Chelsea MacNeil notched a power play tally at 14:41 before Kennedy scored her second goal of the evening to make it 4-0 at 17:30. Nardelli added a late score with 50 seconds left in the second period to give the visitors at 5-0 edge heading into the final stanza.

Nardelli finished off her hat trick at 4:39 of the third and capped it with another marker at 17:26 to round out the scoring. The sophomore had previously scored just one career goal in 28 career games, coming on November 20 against UMass Boston. In addition to Kennedy's two goals, Bowdoin got three assists from Mallory Andrews and two helpers from Ariana Bourque in the victory.

Lessard was solid in her first game between the pipes on the ice this year, stopping all 28 shots she saw, including 14 in the second period, to seal the win.

The teams will play again on Saturday in Brunswick. Face-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
