BRUNSWICK, Maine- The Bowdoin College women's ice hockey team will host a "Pink the Rink" fundraising event during their games against Amherst College on February 17th and 18th as part of their efforts to raise money for breast cancer research. All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Breast Health Center at Mid Coast Hospital.
As part of their efforts to raise money for the donation, the Polar Bears have personally made pink ribbons and have been distributing them around campus in return for donations for the past two weeks. Last year the pink ribbon campaign resulted in ribbons on backpacks and jackets across campus. In the spring, the team was able to present a check for $1,175 to Mid Coast Hospital, and they hope the event will help surpass last year's donation.
The Bowdoin women's ice hockey team will wear pink laces and use pink tape during the game to show their support. Fans are asked to come support the event and are encouraged to help the fundraising efforts by donating money and wearing their pink ribbons.
The contest will undoubtedly prove exciting, as four of the last five meetings between Bowdoin and Amherst have been decided by one goal. The puck is scheduled to drop at 7:00 p.m. on Friday evening at Watson Arena with Saturday's Senior Day contest scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
